Junior middleweight Tim Tszyu has made good on his promise to stay busy.
As BoxingScene.com previously reported, Tszyu will make a defense of the interim-WBO junior middleweight title against Carlos Ocampo on June 18 in Queensland, Australia.
Tszyu was in action back in March, when he picked up one of his biggest career wins with a stoppage over Tony Harrison.
He was initially scheduled to have his mandatory shot at undisputed champion Jermell Charlo – but the fight was postponed when Charlo suffered a hand injury.
The hand injury has continued to play out, with Tszyu forced to take another contest while waiting to face Charlo.
“So [the Charlo brothers] don’t like to fight,” Tszyu told Fox Sports Australia. “I know they call themselves lions, but really they’re a bunch of … I dunno … they just don’t do anything.
“Which isn’t how lions act, let’s just say that. [Jermell Charlo] is on the decline. I’m on the incline. And by the time we fight, the difference will be shown.”
Tszyu also lashed out at domestic rival Michael Zerafa.
While waiting for a new date with Charlo, there was talk that Tszyu’s handlers approached Zerafa for a fight.
Zerafa was in line for a crack at WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara, but took a step-aside fee to allow the Cuban champion to make a voluntary defense against Danny Garcia.
“That just shows his character, shows exactly the type of person he is. He’s a fraud,” said Tszyu.
“There’s no way I’d ever step away from a world title fight. But in saying that, the only fighters who get offered step aside money are those who aren’t relevant. Fighters who aren’t important, the ones nobody cares about. I dunno how much he took. But that bloke would accept 500 bucks.”
