The solid prospect from Jalisco, Jorge “Kan” Mata, opened up the fight against Miguel Roman with an aggressive style, but unfortunately there was an accidental head clash and the local commission of Juárez determined that Roman had suffered a severe enough cut to tab the bout a no-contest.
The fight headlined a night of boxing that Bxstrs Promotions and Promociones del Pueblo presented in Ciudad Juárez, and which was broadcast live to Latin America on ESPN KnockOut.
Roman came away with a cut on the left eyelid almost at the height of the eyebrow.
After a first round in which Mata (15-1-2, 10 KO’s) went forward and seemed to stagger Roman (65-14-0, 49 KO’s) with a left hook to the face. The fight would then heat up with both fighters determined to exchange power shots.
In the second round, Mata and Roman came together to trade some more. Their head came together, with Roman signaling a head clash to the referee.
The ring doctor recommended a suspension of the fight, and since the fight did not reach the fourth round, a no contest was ruled.
Then a controversial situation took place in the aftermath, when a fan went up to the ring and hit Mata from behind as the official result was being determined.
