Devon Alexander: “Maestre is Easy Work, First Step in Comeback”

Devon Alexander (27-7-1) returns to the ring on April 8th against Gabriel Maestre (4-0-1). The fight takes place on the Sebastian Fundora-Brian Mendoza undercard in Ontario, California. Showtime will stream the fight on Youtube and Facebook.

The former two-division champion will end a 20-month layoff and will look to snap a three fight losing streak.

While he hasn’t had a fight in nearly two years, he has been actively training in the gym and looks to put on a great show versus the former Venezuelan Olympian who is known for his awkward style.

“It is going to be easy work!” Alexander exclaimed to BoxingScene.com. “Even though I haven’t been fighting, I’ve been training, putting in the work.”

If all goes as planned, the St. Louis based southpaw plans on getting right back in the ring. He said the plan is to make up for lost time and hopes to be back in the mix for big fights sooner rather than later.

“We got plans to come right back. I have lost a lot these last few years. This fight will get attention back to me and my skills and show how good I still am,” Alexander stated.

Maestre last fought in March, 2022 when he fought Taras Shelestyuk to a draw.

Alexander is best known for his victories over Marcos “Chino” Maidana, Lucas Matthysse, Juan Urango and Junior Witter. His most recent win was versus Walter Castillo in 2017.
