As The World of Martial Arts Magazine No 11 prepares to do an expose on the Ip man 4 Tribute fight to Bruce Lee featuring Danny Chan and Mark Strange we have discovered another Bruce Lee Tribute film that started, and then disappeared.
Bruce Lee or Bruce Lee?
Most of the Bruce Lee fraternity know about Danny Chan’s portrayal of Bruce in Shaolin Soccer, Legend of Bruce Lee Chinese TV series and Ip Man 3 and 4. What is not widely known is the tribute film that Danny was to star in, that was planned for 2011 to celebrate Bruce’s 70th birthday.
This was to be a fantastic Mixed Martial Arts film showing Bruce’s position as the innovator of the sport. It was to made in Singapore and called “The Spirit of Fight.”
The project was devised between Danny and his team from Hong Kong, Producer Bruce Ma Cheng Yu from Taiwan and Director Randy Ang.
Producer Bruce Ma Chen Yu stated at the time, “We are the biggest Bruce Lee fans. This self-funded teaser we are shooting now is our tribute to his legacy and giving fans a glimpse of what it would be like if the spirit of Jeet Kune Do is very much alive and becomes a part of the global phenomenon that is Mixed Martial Arts.”
It was also to star Rebecca Tan as a fight commentator who becomes involved with Danny as he faces his fights in the cage.
Unfortunately the film never got made. Now the only evidence that the film was on the starting blocks are two film teaser posters, a few photos, and the trailer below.
So before you read the new magazine (check here World of Martial Arts Magazine )with even more revelations on Danny as Bruce Lee enjoy this trailer for the Bruce Lee Tribute film that should have been, yet, unfortunately, for whatever reasons, never was.
