Andy Ruiz vs. Derek Chisora Clash is Explored By Eddie Hearn

Promoter Eddie Hearn, who works with heavyweight contender Derek Chisora, has made an initial offer to get his boxer a fight with former unified world champion Andy Ruiz.

Chisora has been out of the ring since last December, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Joseph Parker in their rematch. Chisora took a lot of punishment in the fight, but rejected the notion of retiring from the sport.

According to Hearn, Ruiz wasn’t swayed by the initial offer and requested more money for a fight with Chisora.

“When is Chisora out next?” Hearn said to The Mirror. “I want to make Chisora against Andy Ruiz Jr. I made PBC an offer for that fight on Friday. They want more money, understood, but I want to make Chisora vs Ruiz, that’s a great fight.”

Ruiz returned to the ring last year, after a lengthy layoff, to win a hard-fought decision over Chris Arreola. It was Ruiz’s first bout since losing his rematch with Anthony Joshua in December 2019.

Against Arreola, Ruiz had some trouble in the early rounds when he was dropped and rocked by big shots. He eventually made adjustments to box his way to a decision win.

At one point, Hearn expressed interest in offering up Chisora as a comeback opponent for former champion Deontay Wilder.

Hearn has since stepped away from that scenario and would much rather match Chisora against other options in the weight class.

“It’s obviously a very dangerous fight [against Wilder],” Hearn told talkSPORT. “There’s been a few talks about Chisora against Luis Ortiz, with those guys. and I like that fight.

“Chisora against [Chris] Arreola. Chisora against Zhang Zhilei. He’s never in a bad fight and he wants to fight. He wants the biggest fights out there and we’re trying to find him one.”
