Abass Baraou and Sam Eggington are weighed in and ready to go to battle in Telford tomorrow night.
Baraou (14-1, 9 KOs) weighed in at 153lb 8oz for the vacant European super welterweight title fight while Eggington (34-8, 20 KOs) tipped the scales at 153lbs 11oz.
The fighters have been given an added incentive over the past 24 hours. The winner will not only collect the EBU title, they will also put themselves directly in line for a crack at the WBA super welterweight title.
Israil Madrimov (9-0-1, 6 KOs) and Magomed Kurbanov [25-0, 13 KOs) will contest the vacant title next week when they meet on the undercard of the heavyweight showdown between Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia.
The fight between Baraou and Eggington was already a high stakes, crossroads fight but Kalle Sauerland’s announcement that it will now double as a final eliminator for the WBA title has given it an added dimension.
“This is an advert for boxing. [Sam] Eggington, never in a bad fight. Abass Baraou, a phenomenal talent and I’ve just got a little bit of caviar on the top for you, it’s also a final eliminator for the world title, WBA. Hot off the press,” show promoter Sauerland told Boxing Social.
“People forget how great the European championship is in a world of a lot of world titles there is only one European title so it’s a phenomenal title to hold but it’s where it also takes them afterwards.”
