The co-main event of UFC 292 will see the women’s strawweight championship on the line, as Chinese star Weili Zhang takes on Brazilian challenger Amanda Lemos for the 115-pound title.
Zhang is back on top of the women’s 115-pound division after rebounding well from back-to-back losses to Rose Namajunas in 2021 by defeating two former champions in decisive fashion to return to the strawweight summit.
Zhang’s comeback started with a second-round TKO finish of Poland’s Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 275 in June 2022, before “Magnum” returned to the cage in November the same year to submit Carla Esparza via second-round crucifix rear-naked choke and recapture the belt at UFC 281.
Now Zhang plans on cementing her spot at the top of the division by turning back the challenge of fifth-ranked Brazilian Amanda Lemos, who earned herself a shot at the gold with seven wins from her last eight UFC appearances, including back-to-back victories over Michelle Waterson-Gomez and Marina Rodriguez in her two most recent outings.
Both women are accomplished finishers, with Zhang and Lemos entering the bout with finish rates of 83 and 85 percent, respectively, and a fast-paced clash is expected when they face off in Boston this weekend.
Ahead of the bout, the UFC’s Countdown cameras caught up with both fighters, and their teams, as they made their final preparations for their championship clash. Check it out via the video player below.
