Michael Chiesa smothers Neil Magny en route to decisive unanimous decision win
Michael Chiesa continued to look well at home in the UFC welterweight division with a dominant victory over Neil Magny.
The Ultimate Fighter season 15 champion was able to skillfully impose his will on fellow TUF alum Magny and had his way with his foe in the grappling stakes.
Chiesa was able to score multiple takedowns throughout this 25-minute contest and whenever the fight hit the mat, he was able to secure dominant positions with ease, stifle any resistance with his top control, rain down ground and pound when required and threaten with submissions.
Magny had little answer for what Chiesa brought his way, which was somewhat surprising to see from an active, veteran combatant who has 24 contests under the UFC banner.
In the striking stakes, Magny seemed to have the edge on Chiesa and he also threw up an inverted triangle attempt at one stage, but that wasn’t enough to stop the Washington native doing as he pleased in the cage.
Chiesa rightly won a unanimous decision from the cageside judges and is now 4-0 at 170 pounds.
Warlley Alves derails Mounir Lazzez hype train with knockout win
Going into the fight as the underdog and coming off a long layoff, Warlley Alves didn’t seem to have missed a beat as he battered relative newcomer Mounir Lazzez in the co-main event on Wednesday evening.
Tunisia’s Lazzez, who was coming off an impressive victory over Abdul Razak Alhassan in his UFC debut, had little answer for the Brazilian as Alves took the fight to him right off the bat.
Alves, who won season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil, looked to strike with the kickboxer from the very get go and quickly found success in throwing strikes with reckless abandon.
Lazzez found himself caught up against the cage fence after a scramble, before Alves slammed in three consecutive body kicks – same leg, same part of softened body.
The third and final blow was enough to fold Lazzez in half and the UAE-based welterweight instantly turtled up to protect himself as Alves delivered punches to his fallen opponent.
Impressive victory for Alves as he made a triumphant return to the Octagon. Lazzez will be back, most likely at another Fight Island event in 2021, and will want to get over this one as soon as he can.
