The UFC heavyweight title will take center stage when the Octagon returns to Madison Square Garden on Saturday, November 11.
Heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been booked to take on former two-time champion Stipe Miocic in a battle between two legends of the UFC’s higher weight classes in New York City.
Jones captured heavyweight gold with a first-round submission win over Ciryl Gane at UFC 285, and set a new record for the most UFC title fights contested, with 15.
Miocic, meanwhile, will make his return to the cage for the first time since his defeat to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260 in March 2021. He holds the record for the most heavyweight title defenses in UFC history, with four.
The bout will headline in the Big Apple on the weekend of the UFC’s 30th anniversary, with UFC 1 taking place on November 12, 1993, in Denver, Colorado.
The matchup was officially announced on the UFC’s official social media channels by UFC president Dana White.
“It’s International Fight Week here in Vegas, so it is the perfect time to announce another badass fight,” White began.
“For the heavyweight championship of the world, Jon Jones, the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, will defend his title against the greatest heavyweight of all time, former champ Stipe Miocic. They headline UFC 295 on Saturday, November 11 at the Mecca, Madison Square Garden, in New York City.
“This is the fight that Jon Jones wanted, it’s the fight that Stipe wanted. It is a legacy fight for both of these guys. It’s official. It’s done.”
