Josh Emmett vs Shane Burgos is nominated for the Fight of the Year in the 12th annual World MMA Awards.
Despite how tough preparations have been for fighters training during a pandemic, Josh Emmett and Shane Burgos each put on a fine performance to wow those watching on their TVs at home.
Emmett emerged from the cage the victor, but he had to overcome some serious adversity to earn the nod from the judges in this gritty, gruelling three-round affair with Burgos.
Team Alpha Male’s Emmett appeared to have injured his knee in the early going of the fight, but that didn’t stop him from being the aggressor.
His revered right hand found its target on multiple occasions but Burgos displayed a ridiculous level of durability to return fire in this memorable brawl.
It was a close fight and Burgos had his best success in the contest’s second stanza. However, Emmett managed to pull away from his opponent on the scorecards with a big third round.
The final five minutes saw Emmett floor Burgos twice with two short left hands to secure the decision win as 15 minutes elapsed.
Remind yourself just how good this back-and-forth battle was by watching the video to see why Emmett – Burgos is rightly a contender for Fight of the Year.
