Anthony Pettis’ superman punch knockout victory over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson is nominated for the Knockout of the Year in the 12th annual World MMA Awards.
In March, 2019 former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis made a triumphant return to the welterweight division – his first in over a decade – when he knocked out Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson with a superman punch.
Wonderboy appeared to have the striking edge over Pettis as he successfully landed punches and kicks with pinpoint accuracy in the opening round.
The fight followed a similar vein in the second stanza as well with Thompson out-striking Pettis, who appeared to struggle to find his rhythm while fighting an awkward, point karate-style competitor.
Looking to make something happen with just seconds remaining of round two, Pettis changed that outlook on a dime when he unleashed a perfect superman punch.
It landed flush, completely shutting Wonderboy’s lights off in spectacular style. Any follow-up strikes were unnecessary as Thompson was knocked out as soon as Pettis’ Hail Mary shot landed perfectly.
Is Anthony Pettis’ superman punch KO win over Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson your Knockout of the Year?
