WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has lashed out at Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn, over the British promoter’s statements regarding a potential clash with domestic rival Anthony Joshua.
In a recent interview, Hearn explained that Fury could face Joshua in a 2024 encounter that could net each boxer $100 million.
According to Fury, Hearn is simply using his name to drum up headlines for boxers within his stable – namely Joshua.
“Eddie Hearn has to speak about that [a potential fight with Joshua] because his full stable has gone down the toilet. The only time he gets any relevance is when he talks about Tyson Fury so if I were him, I’d talk about Tyson Fury too. The golden goose is done,” Fury told The Daily Mail.
“The fox has got in the pen and killed it, it’s over. All he talks about is Tyson Fury and that’s because it’s the only way he will gets publicity. But, I told them in December, this is the final opportunity you guys are ever going to get to fight me so take it today or don’t. And they didn’t. So, they’re out in the cold. Frozen.”
Fury also cast doubt on the monetary figures that Hearn is throwing around for a potential Joshua clash next year.
“I’m not sure who is going to give us the $100 million each. Who is going to pay it. Eddie Hearn hasn’t got it. Eddie Hearn ain’t got it. Eddie Hearn ain’t got 20 percent of that. So, who is going to pay us the $100 million each? If he does know someone who is going to give us $100 million each then give us a call. I will just add that $100 million to the other $200/$300 million I’ve already got,” Fury said.
Fury returns to the ring on Saturday night in Saudi Arabia, where he faces former UFC champion Francis Ngannou in a non-title crossover boxing match.
