On Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was ringside to watch the lightweight showdown between Gervonta Davis and Ryan Garcia.
There has been some recent chatter about the possibility of Wilder facing former unified champion Anthony Joshua at the end of the year in Saudi Arabia.
“We got a lot of different options right now at this moment in time. Joshua, everybody. I think a lot of people is going to get that dream fight everyone wants to see,” Wilder told IFL TV.
In a recent interview, Wilder’s head trainer, Malik Scott, backed his fighter to stop Joshua in three rounds.
Wilder, however, does not view Joshua as an easy fight.
“Nobody is an easy night. Nobody is easy because, on the night of the fight, you just never know what they might have in them that night. It might be like ‘I feel great!’ Stay training, man, stay focused and I wish you nothing but the best,” Wilder said.
Wilder has been out of the ring since last October, when he demolished heavyweight contender Robert Helenius in one round.
Earlier this month, Joshua bounced back, after back to back defeats, with a twelve round unanimous decision over Jermaine Franklin.
He embraces the scenario of trading punches with a fighter like Wilder.
“He is good, I respect him, I don’t undermine him. That will make me raise my game,” Joshua said to Metro.
“I respect what he has done and what he has done in this division. It is hard to become a champion and he did it so I have to respect that. It’s going to be a tough fight but I am confident in myself. I’m a better, more well-rounded athlete, a better, more well-rounded fighter.”
