Broner’s Coach To Prograis: “If You Think AB is Shot Let’s Make it Happen!”

On Saturday night, Regis Prograis (29-1) retained his WBC super lightweight title with a twelve round split decision over Danielto Zorrilla (17-2) at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana.  The bout headlined a Matchroom Boxing card that will be streamed on DAZN.

The bout was Prograis’ first of a three-fight deal he recently signed with Matchroom.

One potential option that has been floated on social media for Prograis’ third fight is a unification clash with IBF super welterweight champion Subriel Matias. At the moment Matias is slated to defend his title against former world champion Sergey Lipinets in August.

Another interesting option for Prograis is former four-division champion Adrien Broner. He picked up a dominant decision victory over Bill Hutchinson on June 9th in Florida.  The win came after a near two and a half year layoff.

“AB is coming back in August and after that he’s only interested in Ryan (Garcia) or Regis,” Broner’s trainer Kevin Cunningham told BoxingScene.com.

“I saw Regis do an interview the other day and he said AB looked shot against Hutchinson. I thought AB looked good considering he hadn’t fought in two and a half years. Hutchinson hadn’t loss a fight in seven years.

“Regis has one elite level opponent on his entire resume and that’s Josh Taylor. The one opportunity he had to prove how great he was, he got his ass whooped. If he thinks AB is so shot lets make it happen!”

Cunningham said that after Broner’s late summer bout, he will be ready for a major fight to close out the year.
