Aston Brown returned from a near five-year hiatus to keep up his unbeaten run.
The middleweight made a comeback at the Glasgow Boxing Academy in Govan, Scotland, exclusively live on Fite TV +.
Brown, who has teamed up with Joseph McNally and Declan O’Rourke in Liverpool for the next stage of his career, secured a six-round win at the top of the bill promoted by Mervyn Turner’s Shamrock Promotions for Boxing Social on Friday night.
And the 32-year-old, who took on the likes of Jason Quigley and Felix Cash as an amateur for both Team Scotland and Team GB while in the vest and headguard, is keen to move on from a nightmarish spell that last saw him in action in November 2018.
Brown had Angel Emilov in the opposite corner to him and he did a dominant job on the durable Bulgarian. The referee scored the contest 60 points to 54 in favour of Brown and the man who is now training alongside WBO super-lightweight champion Josh
Taylor on Merseyside will be hoping to stay active after picking his shots well and looking sharp as he moved to 4-0.
“I’m just glad to be back and to shake off that ring rust,” an ecstatic Brown said afterwards. “It was my first fight back in nearly five years and I was really nervous, but I enjoyed it and I want to move quickly.”
Meanwhile, Boris Crighton got back in the win column less than a month after stepping in at late notice and suffering a defeat for just the second time as a pro.
The 29-year-old, based in Aberdeen, dropped a decision at the hands of Lyndon Arthur on less than 24 hours’ notice on March 24 up at light-heavyweight, but he bounced back with a win over previously unbeaten Colombian Wilmer Baron.
Baron, now 6-1 with five quick, made a good start in the fight, but ’The Blade’ took over and got the decision by a margin of 60 points to 54 to move to 11-2 with seven stoppages.
Ryan Clark made a solid start to his professional career as he outpointed Mitchell Woollard by 39 points to 37, while heavyweight Nick Campbell bounced back from his sole career defeat to date.
Campbell outpointed Jake Darnell, the man who was taken out inside a round by Olympic bronze medallist Frazer Clarke on his debut last February, by 60 points to 54 to advance to 6-1 with five early and he was joined in victory by Gerard McTaggart and Uisma Lima.
Lima, the Portuguese-based Angolan, has impressed on UK shores previously and he did so again, taking out Lesther Espino inside two rounds, while McTaggart faced late replacement Dean Wilkinson and moved to 2-0 with a 40-36 points win.
And Lewis Crocker snapped a period of inactivity with a sensational second-round stoppage.
The 26-year-old former WBO European welterweight champion had been out of the ring since November 2021, but after linking up with new trainer Billy Nelson in the past few weeks, the Belfast man showed everyone just what they have been missing as he finished the challenge of his opponent early.
Crocker, who is now 15-0 with nine quick, scythed down Spanish-based Colombian Joel Julio –– now 39-16 (33 KOs) –– after one minute and 59 seconds of the second round, with activity now the plan as a new date, eyed for next month, is already being discussed.
